Hilary Ogbonna is Programme Specialist and Focal Point for Africa and the Arab States for the UN SDG Action Campaign. He has been working with Campaign since 2011 and has been a key adviser to the Government of Nigeria and the United Nations System in Nigeria during the post 2015/SDGs preparatory processes including the national consultations and inter-governmental negotiations. He has been charged with managing multi-level and multi-stakeholders’ partnership for the Campaign in Nigeria and across Africa and the Arab States. He is also coordinating the newly formed African Network of Parliamentarians on the SDGs, a regional initiative aimed at strengthening regional and national parliaments play their rightful roles in national implementation of the SDGs.
Prior to joining the Campaign, he has worked with UNDP as National Expert on Public Accountability, managing anti-corruption programs and technical cooperation. He has worked with ActionAid International on citizens’ budget advocacy, economic justice and public finance reforms. He has also worked with the African Union Commission and the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights to draft Conventions and Resolutions on Humanitarian Law, Maternal Mortality and Access to Medicines in Africa. He holds a Master of Law degree in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (Nigeria).
