Mr. Tom de Groeve. Ph. D., is Deputy Head of the Disaster Risk Management Unit at the European Commission Joint Research Centre. He is heading research in early warning and emergency management, as well as disaster risk, exposure and disaster loss data. This research, as well as the extensive data work, supports the EU policy in disaster risk, climate change adaptation and sustainable development. Tom has recently been involved in the Open Ended Intergovernmental Expert Group on indicators and terminology relating to disaster risk reduction established by the UN General Assembly to develop a set of indicators to measure global progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030.
