Technical Expert Meetings on Adaptation (TEM-A)

The technical examination process on adaptation was established by the Paris Agreement to promote enhanced action prior to 2020. The technical expert meetings (TEMs) on adaptation are at the core of this process.


The 2020 Technical Expert Meeting (TEM-As)

In 2020, the TEM-A is focusing on Education and training, public participation and youth to enhance adaptation action. The event is organised jointly by the Subsidiary Bodies, the Adaptation Committee and guided by the High Level Climate Champions.


The 2019 Technical Expert Meeting (TEM-As)

In 2019, the TEM-A was focused on Adaptation finance, including the private sector. The event is organised jointly by the Subsidiary Bodies, the Adaptation Committee and guided by the High Level Climate Champions.


The 2018 Technical Expert Meeting (TEM-As)

In 2018, the TEM-A was focused on Adaptation planning for vulnerable groups, communities and ecosystem. The event is organised jointly by the Subsidiary Bodies, the Adaptation Committee and guided by the High Level Climate Champions.


The 2017 Technical Expert Meeting (TEM-As)

In 2017, the TEM-A was focused on Integrating climate change adaptation with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The event was organised jointly by the Subsidiary Bodies, the Adaptation Committee and guided by the High Level Climate Champions.

The two-day event involved the Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, Ms. Patricia Espinosa, the High Level Climate Champions, Special Envoy H.E. Ms. Hakima El Haite (Morocco) and H.E. Minister Mr. Inia Seruiratu (Fiji), as well as high level representatives of the custodian organisations of the three processes, national policy-makers, implementers, investors from different regions and at different levels.

The 2016 Technical Expert Meetings (TEM-As)

The umbrella topic for the 2016 TEP-A was ‘’Reducing vulnerability and mainstreaming climate change adaptation, including through the process to formulate and implement national adaptation plans”. Two events took place in 2016.

2016 - First event

“Enhancing the implementation of adaptation action with emphasis on gaps, needs, challenges, options and opportunities for implementation on the ground; means of implementation, including for the improvement of climate information services and understanding of scientific information at the national level; and good practices for reducing vulnerability”
